NATURALIA: LA STORIA D’AMORE E ROVINA TRA L’UOMO E LA TERRA

"How to talk about climate change by saying the urgency without causing the immobility of impotence? How to tell the gravity of what happens without harboring anxiety and feelings of despair? How to convey all the nuances of this human parable on Earth that has generated devastation, but also knowledge and respect for the planet?
Words, in their linearity, sometimes seem to struggle to restore this complexity to us, which is why certain images are perhaps more effective, touching us at the same time with immediacy and with that goad that then leaves us time to think" With these words Virginia Farina presents this illustrated work created for Versante Ripido an association, based in Bologna, that deals with art, poetry and literature.

Here is an excerpt of the ten ecological stories created for the first 2022 fanzine of Versante Ripido.

"I thought about the homocentric vision, about the fact that we think we can imprison Nature, that we think we can have control over natural phenomena or impose our will on other species. But Nature is free and cannot be contained. Also in this image returns a concept that I often put in my drawings, we are Nature and what we do to the environment, which is our home by the way, we do it to us"

"I chose to create each image linked to the other, because I wanted to give the idea of something flowing. The idea was to represent the sea with its endangered species due to plastic pollution. Mine is an invitation to look at everything and not pretend that a problem does not exist just because it is far from us."
"I chose to represent the isolation which is another consequence of climate change anxiety, I drew a painter who paints a mural that represents a solar landscape, but is inside a dark room, the invitation is that to find contact with Nature truly, live, not only through our screens."
"The last story is dedicated to biodiversity, in which a woman forms a circle in which animals and men find their lost alliance.
It was important for me to conclude with hope!"
